Sky Doll Plot Summary

The planet Papathea is a devout world that has long been governed by strict religious rules and beliefs, overseen by two female Pope’s—Papesses, the sisters Lodovica and Agape. However, after the defrocking and disappearance of the more spiritual sister, Agape, the Church falls under the control of the heavy-handed and power-hungry Lodovica, who uses her singular position to tighten her grip over the planet and its people. Seeking to expand her empire further, Lodovica sends missionaries to other worlds to spread Papathea's religious doctrines and bend them to her will. Her latest target is the planet Aqua, which boasts a philosophy of individuality, despite all of the residents being clones led by a guru, Gaia. Lodovica and Agape Lodovica dispatches two of her trusted mercenaries, the hard-boiled, fanatical Jahu, and the mild-mannered, more open-minded Roy, in hopes of converting the Aquarians. However, their mission is interrupted when they find that their space cruiser has tak...

Review: The Sacrificers, Vol. 1

The Sacrificers, Vol. 1 by Rick Remender My rating: 4 of 5 stars The Sacrificers is a dark dystopian fantasy comic book that explores inequality, power, privilege, corruption, faith, and doubt. It’s set in a unique, visually distinct world of anthropomorphic animals, where families and villages are forced to give up a child for sacrifice to the gods every twenty years. Absolute Wonder Woman Review

Absolute Wonder Woman (2024-) #1 by Kelly Thompson My rating: 4 of 5 stars Think Wonder Woman with all her basic abilities, but also a potent, magic-using witch. Like F*c# Yeah! Diana is taken from Themyscira as a baby and dumped in hell(Tartarus) at the behest of Zeus. There she is raised, taught strong magic, and given a collection of formidable mythical weapons by the powerful witch Cerce in order to help her against the Olympian gods who trapped her, and assist in fulfilling her role of aiding humanity.

Family Force V Review

Family Force V: Book One by Matt Braly My rating: 3 of 5 stars Family Force V is a Superhero story exploring strong family and self-discovery themes, that leans a bit too much on the Power Rangers troupe. It follows a teenage girl named Maize, who’s born into a family team of superheroes. She resents her responsibilities and struggles with balancing them with her normal life until she tragically loses someone very dear to her.

Dark Empty Void Review

Dark Empty Void by Zack Kaplan My rating: 4 of 5 stars Dark Empty Void is a sci-fi, psychological thriller, and mystery comic book that explores themes of fear, love, depression, and humanity. The story follows Dr. Joy, a psychiatrist, and her estranged husband, Dr. Colson, who works for a company called Mammoth. When the black hole unexpectedly ejects a living, breathing human girl named Artemis, the scientists realize that the black hole had been slowly expanding and that they can no longer shut it down. Dr. Colson calls in Joy in an attempt to understand and communicate with Artemis to find a solution before the black hole destroys the world.

Ionheart Review

Ionheart by Lukas Kummer My rating: 4 of 5 stars Ionheart is an action, gore, and profanity-filled sci-fi and fantasy mashup that explores themes of artificial life, love, and the dark side of human nature, despite its simplistic cartoony art style. Ionheart is set in a medieval world where objects and technology from the future, referred to as magic by the locals, randomly fall from the sky through temporal breaches. It follows a decorated medieval knight adept in the use of this “magic” who awakens 30 years after an apocalypse involving a demon (murderous advanced robot) decimated his kingdom, poisoned his friends/people, and turned the terrain into a desert wasteland.
